How lucky are we?

We are very lucky! Lucky and blessed to live in the only city in the world with TWO temples!! We finally were able to take our little family to the Oquirrh Mountain Temple Openhouse. We have been watching the temple construction over the last two years from our home. The gates are finally open for us to tour the building with our children. This was a once in a lifetime event! It was absolutely perfect in every way. It's so special how the spirit is there even before it is dedicated.

It's difficult to describe the emotion of watching our children walk through the holiest of places on earth. Chris was choked up on several occasions as he kneeled to describe the rooms to the kids. It's such a poignant moment -- you're trying to explain things to them at the same time you're flashing back to those days spent praying for the opportunity to be a Mom and Dad, the blessing of the present, and envisioning the future...taking them to do "baptisms for the dead" for the first time and later as they prepare for missions and marriage -- the emotion can be overwhelming as you look at their little faces and think of the milestones that lay ahead. Life comes into perspective in an instant.

Madison always asks when she can go to the temple. I was so excited for her! We showed her the Bride's Room where she will put on her pretty white gown some day. Chris had to stop and take a breath as he explained it to her.
Our temple district has a very special opportunity. Everyone is invited to write a paragraph of their testimony to be placed in the cornerstone time capsule. Even children are invited to participate. It will always be a comforting thought to know my children's names, testimonies and drawings will be a small part of this temple.

I scanned a few pictures from the brochure. You can't see it in any of these, but I was impressed with the quantity of stone tile throughout the temple. The beautiful interior stone tile floors and walls are all the way from Egypt and Morocco. The outer walls are granite of course -- from China. The interior architecture and layout of open space is stunning. Go and see for yourself!
